Serving
We are delighted that you have found this page! We believe that God intends all of his disciples to be fruitful in building up his Kingdom. We all have different passions, skills, experiences and gifts and these can be put to good use.
We offer suitable training and support in every area. The very first thing is to settle into HT and make sure that you feel at home. It takes some time to get to know how we do things and it will take us some time to get to know you too.
How to get involved:
Take time to look at the list below which highlights some of the many ministries. If you feel excited about serving in a particular area then we would really like to know about it! Simply contact Abby Ringer in the church office (you can use the Contact Us pages) and we will endeavour to match you up with our particular needs at the present time.
COFFEE BAR:
An opportunity to work behind the hatch at the end of services and provide coffee/tea/biscuits after the services.
Skills required: An ability to make the perfect cup of tea!
Time commitment: Set up 30 minutes prior to start of service and serving after the service for about 20 minutes. It is usual to serve at one service a month.
Training given: Full training will be given by an ‘old hand’ at making tea and coffee.
COUNTING COLLECTION:
This team is responsible for counting the collection from Sunday services.
Skills required: An ability to add up!
Time commitment: Requires about 30 minutes on a Monday morning.
Training given: We are happy to give full training.
EVENT TASK FORCE:
Throughout the year the church hosts a number of events from Alpha to Student Lunch. If you would like to be involved in the practical side of one of more of these events then this is for you.
Cooking for occasional events:
Skills required: Sound cooking skills would be beneficial but we are definitely not looking for the new Jamie Oliver!
Occasional event set up:
Skills required: A practical head and an able body. An ability to work in a team.
Time commitment: With all of the above, the time commitment would depend on the particular event. Some events require only a one off commitment of a couple of hours while others, such as Alpha would require a weekly commitment for a defined period.
HELPING WITH OCCASIONAL, ONE-OFF CHILDRENS EVENTS:
The Children’s Church organise occasional events and expeditions. From time to time we need additional leaders to assist us.
Skills required: Confidence with children and an ability to relate with them.
Time commitment: A one off commitment of up to three hours.
Please note: A Criminal Records Bureau Check is required prior to being eligible to help in this area.
LEADING INTERCESSIONS DURING MORNING SERVICES:
This is not as scary as you might think! A helpful instruction booklet is available with guidelines as to how to compose suitable prayers.
Skills required: A clear speaking voice is very useful.
Time commitment: It takes around 25 minutes to prepare the intercessions, and about four minutes to read them during the service.
OCCASIONAL OFFICE SUPPORT:
During particularly busy times, support in the church office with administrative tasks would be most welcome. In expressing a desire to serve in this way, you are agreeing to being contacted during a busy period to see whether or not you are free to help at that particular time; you are by no means making a firm commitment to help every time!
Skills required: A willingness to muck-in.
Time commitment: A one off commitment of a couple of hours.
Training given: Training will be given for each task.
READING:
During every service we require people to read the bible passage.
Skills required: All that you need is a clear speaking voice.
Time commitment: It is usual to read at one service every 1-2 months.
SOUND:
This team is responsible for running the sound desk at HT services and events.
Skills required: This is a job for the practically minded but isn’t as complicated as it looks. A ‘good ear’ for music would be an advantage.
Time commitment: AM services – Arrive at 8.15am (9.15am during 10.30am service times) PM services – Arrive at 4.45pm . Attention throughout the service.
Training given: Training will be provided by an existing member of the ‘sound team’.
STEWARDING
There are three parts to this task. Greeting people as they come into Church and directing them to their seats; taking the offertory baskets around the Church during the collection and guiding people forward to receive Holy Communion. This is a really fun way of getting to know new people!
Skills required: A warm and friendly nature. A willingness to meet and greet people as they come into the Church. Note: Husband/wife or other ‘buddy’ teams are very welcome in this role.
Time commitment: Arrive 30 minutes prior to the service, clear up church after service (about 15 minutes). It is usual to steward at one service a month.
Training given: Full training will be given by an experienced steward and we are hoping to hold a stewarding workshop at some point soon for both new and existing stewards.
VISUALS:
This team runs the projection software on a laptop during the services.
Skills required: Familiarity with computers. This is a simple program to operate and after about 30 minutes of training and familiarisation one is good to go!
Time commitment: 20 minutes prior to service starting to set up and attention during the service.
Training given: Full training can be provided by an existing member of our ‘visuals team’.
WORSHIP GROUP:
There are lots of opportunities to get involved in helping lead worship in Sunday Services and mid-week.
Skills required: A heart for worship and an ability to sing or play an instrument to an appropriate standard.
Time commiment: AM services – Arrive at 8.15am (9.15am during 10.30am service times) PM services – Arrive at 4.45pm . Attention throughout the service.
Training given: The band rehearse all of the songs prior to each event.
